Article I:  Name

  • Climbing Club

Article II:  Purpose

  • The purpose of the USD Climbing Club is to give the students and faculty of the University of South Dakota an opportunity to climb together in a safe and fun way. 

Article III:  Membership

  • Anyone can be a member
  • All members must pay $15 per year to be in Club - this is not for sure now just an idea on how to keep the club alive financially
  • Climbing club will not discriminate in membership on the basis of race, color, creed, religion, national origin, ancestry, citizenship, gender, sexual orientation, age, or disability.

Article IV:  Officers

  • President
    • Runs meetings
    • Makes major decisions with advisor
  • Secretary
    • Records minutes
    • Works with Gear Manager and Treasurer to keep accurate records
    • Keeps membership records
  • Treasurer
    • Collects dues
    • Manages money
    • Works with Gear manager to purchase equipment
  • Gear Manager
    • Keeps track of equipment
    • Looks and recommends new equipment to buy
    • Makes repairs/reports any damaged gear
  • Webmaster
    • Develops and maintains club website
  • Members may hold more than one position

Article V:  Selection of Officers

  • Members vote for Officers Every year in a meeting held during the first month of school
  • Terms are one year
  • If a vacancy occurs other officers will carry the extra load until the next meeting where nominations would be given for a replacement and then voted on
  • An officer may be removed if anyone person feels that they have not done a sufficient job, by bringing it up in a meeting then there would be a vote on if the member should be ejected from the cabinet of officers

Article VI:  Finances

  • The climbing club will raise money from dues and fundraisers.
  • The club will then spend that money on climbing equipment, trips, and any other materials needed. 
  • The treasurer is responsible for all money.  Secretary also keeps a record of money spent and made.
  • Financial issues will be open to the whole group and be voted on by the whole group. 
  • Officers have final say in decision.

Article VII:  Amendments

  • The constitutions can be changed at any time by bringing it forth in a meeting. 
  • Anyone can propose a change in the constitution
  • Only people that have been member for a month or over may vote
  • A vote only needs majority to pass.
